Controls and Audits

ABPA maintains various controls that are audited, internally and externally (self-audits, Fund audits, SAS 70 audits), on an ongoing basis to ensure the highest level of industry performance standards.

Our controls apply to all our processes including contribution accounting, claims processing, data entry, financial accounting, payroll auditing, pension accounting and organization and administration.
 
Compliance Calendar

ABPA maintains a compliance calendar comprised of health & welfare, pension and financial regulatory filings and notices. The purpose of this calendar is to track each client’s regulatory filings and notices to ensure these are done timely. The calendar calculates the due dates for each client based on their plan year and documents the date mailed, how mailed and who mailed. During the internal audits, this calendar is reviewed for any discrepancies in timeliness.

Employee Education

ABPA has implemented a regulatory training program for its employees. It is not only comprised of the mandated HIPAA Privacy and Security training, but it encompasses other regulatory issues, such as COBRA, Claims/Appeals and PPA. While the training programs are optional for some employees, employees who work directly with the subject matter are required to attend the classes initially upon employment and then annually thereafter. Our library of regulatory education programs is monitored and updated with new programs and any required changes.
